What is Live Remote Proctoring (LRP)?

All AMCA exams are eligible to utilize a Live Remote Proctor (LRP) as a valid testing modality. This means candidates can test in the comfort of their home or work environment with a proctor monitoring the candidate through a webcam. LRP allows test candidates to schedule an exam date, time, and location of their convenience. The AMCA has partnered with ProctorU to offer live remote proctoring on all single certification exams from any computer with a working microphone and camera. Unfortunately, Chromebooks are not compatible, and test candidates will be sent links to test their equipment.

NCCA Live Remote Proctoring Update

At the 2020 I.C.E. Virtual Exchange, the NCCA provided an update on the outcome of its limited assessment of Live Remote Proctoring (LRP) and determined that it is possible to meet the NCCA Standards when using Live Remote Proctoring provided implementation is thoughtfully executed. Therefore as of 3/1/2021, LRP will be offered as a modality on all AMCA certification exams indefinitely.

Testing Your Equipment

In order to test with live remote proctoring using ProctorU, you will need to have 1) a high-speed internet connection 2) a webcam (internal or external) 3) a Windows or Apple Operating System 4) a government issued photo ID.

We highly recommend that you use the Test It Out feature for your equipment prior to your exam date. This feature will allow you to test your equipment, learn about what to expect during your proctoring session, and ask any questions you may have about the proctoring process with a ProctorU representative.

To test your equipment, please do the following:

  • Go to AMCAexams.com and login using the email and password your created upon registration.
  • Click the red “All Access” button in the top right corner of the dashboard. You will be redirected to the exam delivery portal.
  • Click the “Test It Out” link at the bottom of the screen.
  • For additional technical services needed before your exam, you can click on the button that says, “connect to a live person.”

Registering for an AMCA National Certification Exam with Live Remote Proctoring

The registration process with Live Remote Proctoring (LRP) only has one additional step than the regular registration processes. Candidates still select a test site, exam date, and exam, but Live Remote Proctoring (LRP) is only available for computer-based tests. After you submit your Candidate Registration Application, you will be prompted to review exam information, select exam time, and accept “Terms of Service.” For AMCA to provide quality customer service, we recommend scheduling your national certification exam during AMCA’s hours of operation.

Exam Reminder

All candidates scheduled to take an AMCA certification exam with Live Remote Proctoring (LRP) will receive an Exam Reminder the night before the scheduled exam. The exam reminder will contain important information on how to access your exam and a link to Test-Out your computer or labtop. It is also important to have a valid form of identification and be prepared to answer personal questions in order get through the verification process. Here are some exam day rules to keep in mind when preparing for your LRP exam administration.

How do I prepare my workstation for exam day?

  • Google Chrome is the recommended browser for your online proctored exam. Please complete the installation of this program PRIOR to your exam date.
  • Before launching your exam, disable the pop-up blocker in your Chrome browser.
  • Ensure that you have the ability to download and install programs on the computer that you intend to take your exam on. You will be required to install a program upon connecting to a proctor. Please note the program is not available prior to exam day!
    • If you are planning to use a work or school computer, you may not have the rights to download the program as needed. Check with your IT support team to see if you have the correct permissions.
  • Please ensure that you use a functioning free-standing or integrated webcam with microphone or independent microphone for the exam. You will use the webcam and microphone for the entire exam, and to pan your room.
  • You are only allowed to have one monitor running during the exam. If you have more than one, please disconnect it and ensure that it is turned away so that the screen is not facing you.
  • Your computer needs to meet minimum system requirements. Please verify that it meets the equipment requirements. If your computer does not meet the requirements, please make arrangements to use a different computer.
  • A hardwired internet connection is preferred. A wireless connection can be used, but it can be unstable. If you choose to use Wi-Fi, we recommend a speed of at least 10 Mbps. Test your internet speed using one of these speed tests:

What to Expect on Test day:

  • Be in a private, well-lit room
  • Clear your workspace
  • Have your photo I.D. ready
  • Have a reflective surface handy
  • Close all third-party programs
  • No duplicate computer monitors
  • No mobile devices
  • No non-religious head coverings

How do I access my exam on test day?

  • Go to AMCAexams.com and login using the email and password your created upon registration.
  • Click the red “All Access” button in the top right corner of the dashboard. You will be redirected to the exam delivery portal.
  • Click “Write Exam” for the exam you are scheduled to take. This will connect you directly to ProctorU.
  • A countdown timer will be visible until your exam appointment time. You cannot launch the exam until this time.
  • At your appointment time, your exam status will change to ‘Launch Exam’. Click this to begin the exam setup process.
  • You will be redirected to the ProctorU platform. You will run through a series of steps:
    • Complete computer system checks.
    • Download the LogMeIn extension.
    • Connect to a proctor.
  • Once you are connected to your proctor, they will ask you to show your government-issued photo ID, pan the exam room, and use a front-facing (selfie) camera on your phone, or mirror, to show your desk and monitor.
  • Once the room pan is complete, the proctor will release the exam, and you can begin writing.
  • Please note: This process does NOT count towards your examination time!
  • You are permitted to have a beverage in a clear, spill proof container. No food is allowed.
  • Breaks are not permitted during your exam.

Violation of Exam Procedures and Misconduct with LRP

Candidates testing with LRP will be held to the same testing standards and exam procedures as candidates with an in-person proctor. The live-remote proctor can suspend the testing session and terminate the exam administration if a candidate is suspected of cheating or violating AMCA’s exam procedures.
